So what is the proper way to install xlibre on ghostbsd?

I'm callmetango and one of the XLibre maintainers. Would you mind to create a bug report at b-aaz/xlibre-portsissues so we can look into this together in a structured way. Our XLibre ports for FreeBSD maintainer b-aaz is around there and going to help you.

ericbsd 1 have a raven ridge 2400ge apu with vega 11 graphics.

sometimes i have ended up with black screens and mouse pointers that don't move. Other times i have ended up with browsers that when set to full screen span all 3 monitors.

I'm using amdgpu and I made a boot environment.
Then I ran

pkg install xlibre

Then reboot and everything works

ok. could be i was overthinking it.

ok so i notice that during the installation, xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu was not installed. i rebooted and got a login screen and it all looked ok until i tried to mouse across all three screens. my left most screen doesn't show the mouse and the web browser i'm using to write this message in when i try to expand it to full screen will instead span across all 3 monitors. So that's a bit wonky. I'll try the xlibre amdgpu thingy but i expect it will be some of the same there too. brb

LizziAS xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu will interfere with pre-install drivers. GhostBSD does not use xf86-video-amdgpu and xf86-video-intel.

yah so that resulted in 3 black monitors except for the mouse on each screen frozen. so back to xorg now.

The two don't seem to mix very well. That may be one of the reasons that the last update bricked my computer and forced me back to Linux for now. More on that here.

Robin What is your X11 Xorg or XLibre? What did you see when you booted? Is it a shell or a blank screen?

Well i have xorg working in any case and i'm using ghost bsd well otherwise

What linux are you using? I recommend artix btw.

ericbsd I installed xf86-video-amdgpu and my machines are not freezing.
Fingers crossed. Maybe it is just me but I have pushed the browsers pretty hard the last few days.

It boots up, and the last prompt is Login:Robin then it goes to a blank screen. startx has no effect. I installed XLibre but I did not remove Xorg because it would take a bunch of other stuff with it. I suspect I had a mixture of both which I imagine is part of the problem. I plan to wait for the next release - which I believe is to be XLibre - and try again when it is released.

Still a GhostBSD fanboy, sir!

Ok so with all 3 monitors on the mate iso i got as far as masks and it all froze 0x000000ff, 3 times something like that.

on 2 monitors, the 17 inch and the 19 inch the system rebooted b4 bringing up a desktop.

on the 19 inch it exited to fish prompt no desktop.

on the 17 inch i got a desktop and i'm typing on it now.

What's significant is my tv uses an adapter to get the hdmi port connected. and the 19i inch monitor has an adapter to get the vga adapter connected. i could swap out one connector from the motherboard and remove a displayport connector and swap in a vga connector and see if that fixes the issue with the 19inch, just to be sure. my 1 liter machine has 3 displayports with one being swappable.

my bad. the 17 inch is using the dp to vga adapter. it's the only one that boots when connected.

This is a bug we are trying to find the cause of. You are not the only one plagued with it.

LizziAS Also, that looks like scfb, not an AMD driver. I wonder if it is a bug in xconfing it has been changed many times.
