I did a search and found this do not know if it will help or not but worth a try:
loading the NVIDIA kernel modules during boot can cause the system to hang, preventing it from starting up and providing a shell; this requires external booting to correct the configuration. To mitigate this, users are advised to load the NVIDIA modules after the system has fully booted, rather than in the /boot/loader.conf file, and to avoid using tools like nvidia-xconfig, which can inadvertently add problematic entries to the boot configuration.
