awesome version of Ghost BSD

I saw this on X and I think its a version of Ghost BSD. How do I get it? Will it install on an Gen 13 X1 Carbon?

As I understand it, it's still under construction and not ready for release yet.

New developers have joined the Ghost project recently and are working on some innovations that will be independent of both Qt and GTK toolkits! It's like to take a long time before the rest of us see those innovations but they are well underway already. The future of this OS is bright!

It looks amazing and I'll keep checking to see when its released. In the meantime, I downloaded the current version and burned it to a USB. It booted on my ThinkPad, but it was a command line and not a GUI. No idea how to get to the desktop or how to install it,

The PR to make the ISO is in review. It shouldn't be much longer until we have an early preview community image. It has an the GhostBSD installer, Update Station, and most of the things.

I did add some instructions at the link I posted above on how to use GhostBSD unstable to try it for those interested. I will add more instructions on how to generate application wrappers after I finish a PR to publish the gershwin-developer meta pkg.

pkgdemon Thanks for contributing this work. I am still trying to get regular Ghost BSD installed, and once I do I will try to follow the instructions you posted. Much more difficult to install Ghost BSD than a Linux distro like Ubuntu or Fedora. The X server refuses to start and says "Error 1."

"Error 1" is a video driver issue, I think... see this thread if yours is Nvidia.

Robin This laptop uses Intel Arc 140V 16GB. Its a Gen 13 X1 Carbon. The graphical installer will not launch.

I was told on X that my computer is "too new" to support Ghost BSD. Very disappointing. I don't know why the OS is made to only support old computers.

You may contact the FreeBSD Core Team directly at core@FreeBSD.org. GhostBSD depends on upstream FreeBSD for driver support, and the necessary support has not yet been implemented on their end.

vimanuelt I sent an email, and the response was, in so many words, "Sounds like a Ghost BSD problem. Not ours." So I'll try again in six months or so and hope that the installer is updated to support my computer.

No. It may be that back-porting the driver is not feasible, and the response you received was a way to communicate that indirectly. :-(

You could consider trying again in April of next year, when GhostBSD is expected to be based on FreeBSD 15-RELEASE. :-)
