Steam is supposed to be a big deal with gamers, probably mostly on Linux, Windows, and Mac. I do whatever gaming I do on a PlayStation. But I did download aisleriot and majongg to play once in a while when I'm supposed to be studying.

Steam is available in the repos. Unfortunately, its not to the download and get going and off to the races like it is in Linux. There's a couple more steps involved. There's a few more libs that need pulled in. And of course, single player type games may work fine but not so much for your multi-player Fortnite/APEX Legends types as the Anti-Cheat tech is a deal killer there.

tornnomar It would be nice to have a better setup tool for Steam. I am not a fan of ports.

The bigger issue is that Wine is still very finicky on FreeBSD and tends to just randomly decide which games work and which don't. I have had multiple UE4 games which worked fine on Linux just break on FreeBSD while either compiling shaders and then when the game loads everything is messed up or where a game just starting causes it to throw an error and then quit.

Unity games I had more lucky with with most of them working.

Custom engine games are a mixed bag some work, some launch until actual models load where it then crashes and etc. mostly eventually followed by a complete crash due to Wine constantly having the file_set_error() can't map error: Cannot allocate memory error even though you have a lot of RAM left.

I'll have better mileage once I have 3d acceleration from the UHD 630 iGPU and Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU. Still on the scfb driver for video.

That said, as my PC is fast enough for me, I am able to play some of the less graphically dense games on it so far, like Armagetron.

Once I can get some 3D acceleration, preferably with the 1050, I am looking to run a third party Second Life viewer that has a native build. It's called Megapahit. Its main dev recommends I run a pure FreeBSD install, but I think I can get it to work with GhostBSD once the GPUs actually run for me.
