Application Wishlist for GhostBSD

Are there any particular applications or packages you believe should be part of GhostBSD’s default offering?

I am trying to see what takes all the same on the main server.

I am currently running GhostBSD 25.01-R14.2p3, with the ISO built from the ghostbsd-build system. It will be interesting to examine the differences between this build and the release in GhostBSD's jenkins. :-)

Thank you, Eric. :-)

It looks like it could be a problem with HDD Bottlenecks. It might be time to move everything to a system with SSDs.

Testing improvement

ericbsd

It looks like it's better. I have forced the minimum for 0 to 4 G. This has improved the situation. The server's inactive RAM takes up all the ARC that the server needs.

Thank you, Eric. I am able to access the ISO now. :-)

ericbsd thanks, I'm not likely to test anything new until after the switch from FreeBSD to Linux. (Trying to wind things down in the FreeBSD environment.)

FreeBSD is not exactly what one might call grandmother-friendly. It would be refreshing to see the so-called desktop wars in the FOSS world finally come to a close. The GhostBSD project continues to prioritize simplicity, aiming to make the user experience more accessible. Good software takes time to build and refine; sometimes decades, especially for a small team or a single developer. This is why understanding the real needs of users becomes essential when seeking support or donations from the community. It is, after all, a symbiotic relationship. :-)

Amongst the rows that I added, my greatest wish:

GParted.

On Monday, I booted the installer for Kubuntu 25.04 (to diagnose someone's installation of Ubuntu that would not boot). I was pleasantly surprised to discover KDE Partition Manager:

(During a previous visit to the building, I tried to use GhostBSD live.)

Naturally, I no longer believe that.

I have created a separate topic for the related aside:

Feedback is appreciated. Feel free to continue that part of the discussion there.

Not trying to add too much to the wish list... I am new and coming from linux to GhostBSD. I would like to see the option to install Betterbird, a fork of Thunderbird. This ran well under Manjaro linux and wondering what it would take to get in the pkg installs? I would be will to help on this if someone could point me in the right direction.

I like my Fedora Slverblue with a stock Gnome desktop. It is clean and provides only a few apps. Less is here more. Like on GhostBSD I start the Software station (there only called Software) and install everything I know or need.

My experience says that by asking many users for a wishlist a big one would be the result. And the Mate desktop provides very useful apps per default. I would not preinstall more apps in addition.

I concur. Adopting a minimalist naming convention (e.g., Software, Backup, Update) would align with established practices in other operating systems and improve overall clarity.

Robin This sounds like what Fedora has to make bootable usbs
