GhostBSD and Trident

Since version 18 GhostBSD is based on TrueOS.
However recently the desktop part of TrueOS has been forked in a project called Trident.
Will the next versions of GhostBSD be re-based on Trident then ?
If so, the path of dependencies becomes quite long :
FreeBSD > TrueOS > Trident > GhostBSD.

TrueOS is supposed to be a base for many distros, no?

I guess Trident is the new project name for TrueOS+LuminaDesktop,
probably done mostly for the benefit of TrueNAS ?

I can't see any reason why GhostBSD needs ever to refer to Trident as a dependency. Trident is the name given to the desktop offspring of TrueOS because, apparently, TrueOS developers want to concentrate on the server side of things......where the money is???

Trident is pretty good, all set up and ready to go with Lumina desktop which is stated to be a BSD development.

GhostBSD seems more intuitive to me with the Mate desktop.

Indeed, that's what I yesterday found out in a web page on the TrueOS side.

I prefer GhostBSD to Trident but that is a matter of taste

As I understand it, Lumina's reason to exist, is that it is fully BSD licensed, no GPL.

I will also add that Lumina was started for BSD and is developed for BSD.

Lunima ist the standard DE for Trident as well as MATE is the standard DE for GhostBSD. But in both cases you can additionally install any DE that is available for FreeBSD. In my case it's always XFCE

@EricBSD : Lumina, at least in the beginning, was also avalaible for Linux. I remember trying it out on my Arch Linux machine.
Maybe that has changed recently. I remember the build was supposed to be OS agnostic.

@rowo : this brings me to the point that GhostBSD 18.12 only has mate as an official desktop, whereas in the past both XFCE and Mate were official supported. Will there be a specific XCFE version for 18.12 (with a specific iso install) ? Off course, after installation of the Mate version, you're free to install what you like but that is not a very clean install in my opinion.

I was using True OS 18.03 until it became dead, as they were forking it into the server version, which would retain the name True; and the desktop version, called Trident. After several attempts to install Trident, I had to conclude that it might be too much OS for my older system. Which is why I decided to give Ghost a try. The fact that it's based on True was a big draw as I knew at least a little about it. While I did like Lumina, I find Mate more intuitive. I had previously used Mate on Mint and Ubuntu. Although I prefer XFCE.

I think Ghost is perfect for the original HDD in my 10 year system. ZFS is much easier on a hard drive than Linux, let alone Windows. It sounded like all ### was breaking loose when that drive had Windows on it, while it was firing up. But with ZFS it runs cooler and quieter. I find Ghost to boot fast and it's very responsive. I love it so far.
