Install (Upgrade) GhostBSD 18.10: Only mirrorscreening on external monitor

Post by MikiCo »

Hi all,
I´m trying to do a fresh install of GhostBSD 18.10 on my Samsung NP300E5A, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and GT520MX. It´s some kind of an upgrade: the notebook now runs GhostBSD 10.3 / 11.1 for the last 18 months as my second workstation both on desktop and on the road, so yes the hardware is at least compatible with FreeBSD 11.1. I decide not to upgrade my existing environment but to install a spare disk making a clean start. Installation went smooth but when the notebook booted up into it´s new system it displays the content of the notebook screen also on the external monitor. When I went to display settings the system believes it only has one screen which is of type unknown.
Browsing through the forum I found this entry:
https://forums.ghostbsd.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=1082
Tried the described solutions but it didn´t work out for me.
This ist the output of inxi under GhostBSD 18.10:

Any ideas what I´m doing wrong? Or should I try to just clone my existing GhostBSD 11.1 installation and apply an update to the copy?

Best regards,

Did you look at your /etc/X11/xorg.conf if it exists and to see what is the driver is in it?

Hi,
thanks for the hint. No there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. And the resulting plan a failed: copying over xorg.conf from my running GhostBSD 11.1 system - it also has none. Meanwhile I stumbled into a show stopping bug: when the notebook comes from sleep it doesn´t start ipv4 on the wired port. ifconfig says link is up but no ip is obtained to the interface. I´ll report this bug later and will come back to this problem when it´s fixed. During this time I´ll do happily do my work with GhostBSD 11.1.

Best regards,

Mike
