The first thing that comes to my mind is OpenBSD's release songs.

Some of them are medicore but there are also true gems among them which are simply brilliant!

Songs like Puff the Barbarian and The Legend of Puffy Hood are really funny and have great lyrics as well but are rather OpenBSD specific.

Others like Pond-erosa Puff tell the story of some *nix projects that affect us as well: XFree86 (and how it led to X.org) and the Apache HTTPD. Trial of the BSD Knights are about the BSD heritage that we all have in common and are a very valuable source for the younger generation who joined in much later in the timeline of Unix!

I can recommend taking a look at the fine art, do a bit of reading and listen to some songs to anyone who is interested in BSD and Unix beyond just using what we have today.

Here's one from the time when I went to vocational school - it's not music but music related (and intended to be funny  ):

During project work our group needed some material for a website that we had to create with PHP (*ugh*!). We decided to make up a fake metal band, "Die Eukalyptischen Reiter" (i.e. "riders of the eucalyptus"), a play on the German death metal band "Die Apocalyptischen Reiter" ("riders of the apocalypse"). In the end we had several "demos" and an "album" for the website, all of which don't really make sense in English. Unlike the "EP" that I came up with and that I'd like to share with you here.

Image

"Out of CTRL? ESC now!" tracks:

000. (Intrue) Beyond the GATES of ### [0:48]
001. Mickisoft - Where do you want to go todie? [2:36]
010. The Cult (of Vi) [2:37]
011. Kill all children! [3:14]
100. I have a STEAM (Gabe Loser / King?) [2:59]
101. Exokernel [1:45]
110. JFK AFK AFAIK [0:52]
111. (Outrue) A SPARC in the night (setting SUN) [1:03]

The word unfortunately censored by the forum software here is of course the place south of purgatory.

The less than geeky teachers didn't get many of the jokes... But as you can see we were having some fun (to compensate having to do PHP). :P
