hi there,

now that I found a repo with FreeBSD-9.0 files I got a good mix of binaries and compiled stuff now with my GhostBSD2.5.
couldn t find my old hardrives in the basement til now, so no feedback on GhostBSD 3.5 yet... patience! ;)
But my interest in BSD/GhostBSD has risen sharply and some success helps boost that a lot!
Maybe this will become even more than a "playground" for me lol

cheers

Hi Eric and readers,

ok, since my GhostBSD 2.5 is running smoothly on my Nokia netbook in dual-boot with Windows 7 I will take this for work and have a separate HDD with GhostBSD3.1 installed now!
problem is, found no way to get a dual-boot system running, BSD installation only works with whole hard drive and now I can not find a way to install a second system, as all tested Linux so far stop installation with error messages of wrong system, wrong or missing boot options etc.
Will a later GhostBSD version allow dual-boot or a pre-installed system to boot, too or how can I "shrink" an existing partition and label the SECOND one with a linux type and retry linux installation?
I know shrinking works with Linux systems but how do I do this on BSD? (if possible anyway)
Hardrive is an old LBA mode one with 40GB and should host a Linux and GhostBSD as dual-boot!!
BTW: a OpenBSD 5.3 worked as well as a NetBSD 6.1 for dual-boot on my Nokia, but - except GhostBSD 2.5 - none of GhostBSD worked so far.

cheers

Hi Eric and all others,

well, little tricky old GhostBSD wanted to play ignorant on me with dual-boot BUT I managed to make a workaround, not pretty elegant but suitable, so:
now I configured a whole 2nd HDD for GhostBSD3.5Rc1 and I boot via Systemrecovery CD by Linux (wonderful system lol) my 2nd HDD with GhostBSD besides Windoze and Linux, hurray!
It wont allow any dual-boot from same HDD but maybe this will come with further versions, we will see... :D
in the meantime I have a fully workin 2.5 on my netebook and a"playground" on my desktop PC, so pretty happy!

so long folks

Hi everyone,

this is now written from my GhostBSD 3.5RC1 desktop with LXDE/Openbox!
Most things work fine now, except for three subjects I hope to get some hints for:

1) I didn t find a way to change my keyboard settings to german (Austria) and it says at start: "iso.at not found" ?

2) is it a bug or why do I have to start my wifi network manually each start with the manager, ALTHOUGH wifi is up?
where does wifi mananger write its settings - maybe there is write protection on and:

3) I tried three different versions to get flash/Youtube play on my system: gnash, swfdec-/plugin and tried the Linux component of Adobe Flash player 11 for Firefox but first says: " an error occured, try again later" on Youtube, second is not recognized by Firefox at all and third says: " corrupt file" or something..., guess I made a mistake with Linux file and/or proc-settings?
but did not get the point how to adjust...

so any help on these things would be greatly appreciated!
one good thing on first subject is: I learned again perfectly the US layout of keyboard...

I do not know, where all these writing errors should be but anyway.
I thought more about some hints for my questions but as it turned out, most of them could be solved by myself.
Now I got two problems left:

1) I cannot configure my Epson Stylus D120 on GhostBSD 3.5 Beta.
When I try with CUPS and web interface or with GhostBSD configuration tool the printout only contains weird characters and symbols, same with the other tools.
I tried every cups database entry that seemed useful with same result!

2) I tried to add information to login.conf and terminal conf files for german keyboard layout but the system still works with US layout and I am stuck with a solution for that either.

These would be the main issues for me to solve, so any ideas really welcomed!

well, I try to write as clearly as possible in this forums but all the edits by adripillo12 are getting a bit ridiculous now, especially as other people do lot of errors and misspellings as well where I DO NOT see any edits!
And always in my own topic looks for me now a bit like someone is taking a shot on me, especially when arriving in this forum days after me!
So, with spell checking ACTIVATED (which rarely appears) and no major flaws I can see, I would rather concentrate on solving problems of the system rather than digging for a missing capital letter or an exclamation point too much!

Because now I am taking it a bit personal.

Achim :x

An example in the edit window: " correcting some words but is much better"
isn´t: "but IT is much better" the right grammar for a sentence?

I think You have not meet DutchDaemon on the FreeBSD Forum, he do the same thing and that is helping out the community and yes it can be frustating some time.

Did you try to google for the Cups drivers? http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/usi ... ation.html might help you for your keybord. ;)

Hi Eric,

yeah, we share the same spirit about frustration, LOL, but I can deal with it! ;)
Thank You for Your hint about the CUPS drivers, will check this.
in the meantime I have now TWO GhostBSD systems, one on 2.5 and one on 3.5RC1 running, the first is for playing (haaaa, got Doom again running! :D ) and music listening as well as learning console tools and BSD in general, the second one is for Web, database stuff and scripting with both on LXDE, a very fine desktop I am trying now on openSuse as well!
So thanks a lot so far for all Your help, I will stay with GhostBSD for quite some while!

cheers

Hi Eric and others reading in here!

After solving the screen resolution problem successfully I have just two issues left:

First of all: if You meant this forum Eric, when referring to login problems, I must admit, there are a few strange behaviours.
I have to login twice to read messages and sometimes have to re-login a third time to post a reply, that´ s strange!

Second: after trying around with gutenprint 5.2.8 and my Epson D120 printer, the issue of error messages in this "escp2-papers.c" file in line 149 seems to be affecting not only Ghost-/FreeBSD, but Linux as well.
Still without a solution for this issue!

The third problem of manually restart wifi seems to be out of a wrong recognize of wlan0 instead of ath0 at start.
So will try to manually adjust that, too - but everything else now works smoothly and stable! :D

cheers
