GhostBSD4.0-RC2

Post by bsdkeith »

Downloaded, burnt, & tried to run DVD, but it would not boot.
Went back to my email notification to re download it, but it now links to some py-type program. :!:
(Will await further developements.)
Edit: I see there is a newer (3:20pm) version for downloading, will burn to disk & see how it performs, shortly.
Edit2: Also downloading .img files 64bit & 32bit, I will try them out over the weekend.

Decided to have a go with RC2 running live this afternoon.

Downloaded & wrote 64 bit .iso to DVD - did not boot up on my laptop, (Advent 9112).

Next, amd64 .img :-
Everything seems to be working except :-
SpiderOak - would not open from the menu - when trying to run from a terminal, libXext.so.6 not found.
Exaile - if closed via the menu is OK, but if closed by using the windows X button it makes a python2.7.core dump.
(I did not try to configure cheese.)

Finally, i386 .img :-
Everything seems OK, except :-
SpiderOak - would not start from the menu - when trying to start it from a terminal, libkrb5.so.3 not found.
Exaile - if closed via the menu is OK, but if closed by using the windows X button it makes a python2.7.core dump.
(I did not try to configure cheese.)
VLC - not installed/not in menu/not in plank. (?)

So, that is my experiences running RC2 live.

I will try installing from pendrives, (maybe tomorrow, no guarantees).

Installed 64 bit .img to my Acer Aspire One 722, (which had PC-BSD10 running on it with sound), no sound(?).
Screenshot still saves to the Desktop only. Spideroak not working from the menu. Exaile still dumps python2.7.core if closed with the window button.
(No DVD drive on this machine, but xfburn opens.)

Edit: Sound now working - kldload hda.
Edit2: Added above to loader.conf.
Edit3: Shutdown does not poweroff.

Because RC1 crashed & corrupted my filesystem yesterday :o , I am installing the latest RC2 (64 bit .img) to my HP-G62 laptop.
Wrong resolution set  - both live & installed - retrograde step, was working properly under RC1. :(

I tried changing the driver in xorg.conf from vesa to intel. Rebooting leaves me at a text prompt, does not start the GUI login screen!
When I login and run startx, it will not start. So, I change the driver back to vesa & reboot - I get the GUI login screen, but my keyboard layout has been changed to English US! :x

Edit: This makes RC2 worse than RC1.

Sorry, I don't have it any more since it crashed on the HP-G62, but I'm sure it needs Intel.
(PC-BSD is back on there for now.)
