First I see you have done a lot of work between this and the last release, Mate is a good choice. That´s the praise now the problems.
Later nvidia cards are not compatible with the drivers you use, I had to use an older nvidia card to install GhostBSD then install nvidia drivers then I could install my GTX440 card
Sound support is bad after manually installing OSS 4.2 2008 drivers the ones in the repository don't work and know where could I find any documentation.
this for some reason broke the package manager that was crashing before when I pressed update.
Open Office fails to open.
BSD security updates don't work no mirrors found,

Code: Select all

portsnap
does not work no mirrors found,
Now to hard facts I'm willing to stick with GhostBSD if you are willing to spend time on this forum answering people with problems promptly.

This is not meant to be nasty but more as advice, You have a good distro here but it needs direction how to, guides, and solutions in the way users can understand promptly not as it is at the moment.
if you don't you might as well just pack the whole project in as its going nowhere fast?
I'm Sorry if the last words are harsh but its reality.

I don't how many time I can say to people to not use update on the Package Manager. It will harm the system.

This Package Manager (bxpkg) was life saver, but now it is a pain and a problem for GhostBSD, since bxpkg is not an official GhostBSD project, I have no control on the problem coming from the Package Manager.

Are you connected to the internet with GhostBSD?
I did

Code: Select all

portsnap fetch
and

Code: Select all

freebsd-update fetch
those worked.

And please try to write a better English I have hard time to figure what you say.

1/ I am English this is an international site so people from all parts of the world use it so you need to accept how people write! really "I have hard time to figure what you say" should read " I have a hard time to figure what you are writing"
2/ I never use a package manager on any distro to update, upgrade, install software, only to find software, you advertise a distro that uses bxpkg, as a package manager then it should work regardless if not remove it.
3/

Code: Select all

portsnap fetch
does not work, does

Code: Select all

freebsd-update
yes I'm connected to the internet I'm writing this on GhostBSD.
4/ For your info I'm using the 64bt version. I'm familiar with

Code: Select all

portsnap
, it says no mirrors found, looking for keyring, giving up,
5/ the same thing with

Code: Select all

freebsd-update
, it says no mirrors found, looking for keyring, giving up,
6/

Code: Select all

package add -r
works so rule out internet connection
7/ your office package also does not work full-stop.
8/ All I need is how to get

Code: Select all

portsnap
, and updates working. I have installed GhostBSD 3.5, Two times with the same problem this may be confined to 64bt, It has to be a bad config file blocking both

Code: Select all

portsnap
, and updates, from the net.

OK I probably misunderstand you about update, I have not try to be mean.
Do you have a valid DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf? See resolv.conf.

Thanks for trying to help.
I think the mirrors must been down for the last few days as its now working and I am updating the ports at this moment. I live in Peru.
The only other problem now is Open Office I does not even try to open. In terminal it also says command not found.
As I said in the first post GhostBSD has a lot of potential and the Mate desktop seems to work better than Gnome 2 did for some reason.
I also like the way GhostBSD mounts ntfs partitions as I store music/vids on ntfs so it readable to all OS including Micorsoft.
You do need to address the non compatibility with some of the later Nvidia cards in live mode.

mandog I know GhostBSD have lot issue to got fix, the worst is if people will be more like you it might get better faster.
For the Open Office you might need to reinstall it.

Things might change to because me and the new team are thinking to put our focus on Mate only but it is not totally forge.

I'm not usually into old school Xfce, Gnome 2, distros, I know Mate is a fork of Gnome 2, but the Mint team are doing a great job with it.
You seem to have got the balance about right it boots fairly fast, has a nice theme most of the software defaults are useful.
You have obviously put a lot of thought into this project I voted for you to carry on when you were worried about the FreeBSD community.
I think it would be a good idea to concentrate on one maybe two desktops to begin with then as the distro grows then add community desktops,
You also need good Puplic Relations keep in the limelight, Linux news, Distrowatch, etc keep plugging away turn bad comments into positive. Tell people BSD is not stuck in 1995 push the security and how good it is as a desktop. Get the sound card support BSD needs into your distro etc.
The hard work could pay off in the long run.

Tell me how you connect to Internet? If you are behind a proxy you will never fetch the ports. You need to add the proxy before fetching.

PS: I am not going to accept "how people write". You write under the Forum Rules or you will not write.

Thank you very much for the warning, as a dyslexic person I take it as a insult to my intelligence. That you feel that I'm not worthy of using your forums, I now see why these forums are very bare you obviously do not want this distro,
that has been put together by Eric to be a success.
P.S I will save this draft to be used if needed
