Calibre stops LibreOffice Writer working

Post by nevets »

Hi, I can't see a bug report in Calibre nor LibreOffice Writer.
Has anyone else seen the following please?
If I install [from software Station] Calibre, and then open an existing LibreOffice text [odt] document the LibreOffice app hangs and times-out without displaying the document. LibreOffice Writer also won't successfully start from menu either.
If I roll-back [i.e. revert to a previous BE before I installed Calibre] then LibreOffice Writer works fine.
I made sure the Properties -> Open with targets were reset and appropriate for the odt I was opening.

Why might Calibre interfere with LibreOffice Writer's function?
Note: this doesn't affect LibreOffice Calc

Hello Steve,

Here is a reply from "Dad" on the telegram channel.

Dad, [7/18/23 6:37 AM]
I use both Calibre and Writer with no issues.
Executing sudo pkg upgrade -fy is needed.

Dad, [7/18/23 6:38 AM]
If he installed from ports, then he needs to uninstall the apps and build again.

Share what versions of LibreOffice and which version of Calibre you are using. Does sound strange, Steve. Wish I had better solution for this interference from Calibre to LibreOffice. .odt is a LibreOffice "template" file correct?

Thanks for passing the response on - much appreciated.

Hmm - everything's up to date with the system [pkg upgrad has nothing to do.] - it's a fresh install and pkg upgrad -fy isn't warranted.
Note - the ODT is the text file [i.e. writer] and OTT the template file.
There's some conflict somewhere...
All the pkgs are the most recent the Ghost repository has.

I might try porting Calibre and see if a customised local compile rather than the default binary does the trick.

you are correct .odt is the writer text file.

Still be nice to have you share the exact details of the versions you are using of Calibre and LibreOffice for reference.

I wish to test here using GhostBSD and using a Linux O/S so version numbers and a reproducible test are important to me. Fred

libreoffice-7.5.4.2_1
calibre-6.22.0

I see FreeBSD latest port is
calibre-6.23.0
So I'll wait for Ghost to catchup...

Calibre 6.23.0 --> this newer version still stops LibreOffice Writer from working.
I think I'd need to run a backtrace debugger to resolve this - not something I've ever tried before.
