Touchpad on Let's note does not work

Post by Leo »

Hi guys! I am very new to GhostBSD and this is first time in my entire life asking something about OS on internet, so please be kind to me.

I just did pkg upgrade few days ago, then my touchpad suddenly stopped working.

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep psm
gives me following output, so it is detected by kernel.

Code: Select all

psm0: <PS/2 Mouse> irq 12 on atkbdc0
psm0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
psm0: model Synaptics Touchpad, device ID 0
Therefore, I assumed something is wrong inside X. I copy&pasted other people's xorg.conf but still didn't work.
I also did other things for few days, but I couldn't fix the problem, I hope you guys can help me out.

Currently, /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ are empty. /usr/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d is left as default, that is, I have
10-amdgpu.conf, 10-quirks.conf, 20-evdev-kbd.conf, 50-vmmouse.conf, 10-evdev.conf, 10-radeon.conf, 40-libinput.conf, 70-synaptics.conf
inside of it.

Here is my loader.conf

Code: Select all

Hello Leo,

Welcome to GhostBSD wishing you will love it for years :-).
For your touchpad you have to install xf86-input-libinput package and perhaps put hw.psm.synaptics_support="1" in your /boot/loader.conf file.

For information see https://wiki.freebsd.org/SynapticsTouchpad .

I did it. But it doesn't still work. I also installed xf86-input- synaptics, xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-mouse. But my touchpad does nothing.

I also added example of InputSection on wiki. But did not work.

Don't forget to launch the moused service with : doas rc-update add moused && rc-service moused start
Regards.

I did

Code: Select all

rc-update add moused && rc-service moused start
but it just says that moused is already running.

moused is executed by rc as :

Code: Select all

/usr/sbin/moused -p /dev/psm0 -I /var/run/moused-psm0.pid
By the way, it is just touchpad that is not working. USB attached mouse is working just fine.

Perhaps could you load acpi driver for your laptop (see " ACPI spécifiques constructeurs " in this tutorial : http://olivier.cochard.me/bidouillage/i ... de-travail

I loaded acpi_panasonic(because my laptop is made by Panasonic), but it seem to do nothing.

I think FreeBSD kernel recognize my touchpad, but X is not.

Code: Select all

xinput list
shows me

I believe there should be PS/2 Synaptics Touchpad listed here but it is not. After making some change in configuration files, my Xorg.0.log changed. It now says:

Code: Select all

[ 9.137] (EE) synaptics: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Synaptics driver unable to detect protocol
[ 9.137] (EE) PreInit returned 11 for "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"

I have no idea what causes this error. Does anyone have any idea?

Additionally, I just found out that people on Twitter are facing same problem. It seems that they are facing this problem since they upgraded their FreeBSD to 12.1-RELEASE. It could be FreeBSD's problem, not GhostBSD's.

Does work on TP T430 Re: Touchpad on Let's note does not work.

Post by wb7odyfred »

My touchpad on my Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is working Leo. Let me post my working copy of the files you shared. We can see what is different. You worked diligently to make synaptics touchpad operate on "Let's note" computer. My touchpad has always worked. Even before "acpi_ibm_load="YES" line in loader.conf was added. I think I might be missing some config file setup to allow my ThinkPad to sleep or install Synaptics Touchpad features. Leo, what is your suggestions here on this Mouse/Synaptics Touchpad issue?
