a few days ago i decided to try BSD for the first time in my life and im really excited about the performance and stability of the system (GhostBSD)

im trying to fix the absence of sound. Ive been searching around to find a solution but my luck of BSD system knowledge has prevented me to find the solution.

When i enter # cat /dev/sndstat i have the following result

Installed devices:
pcm0: <Intel Haswell (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play)
pcm1: <Realtek ALC283 (Front Analog)> (play/rec)
pcm2: <Realtek ALC283 (Rear Analog Mic)> (rec) default
No devices installed from userspace.

im changing the default device by giving

#sysctl.hw.snd.default_unit=1 , then i reboot but still i have no sound

can you help me by giving me instructions step by step?

Add "hw.snd.default_unit=1" in /etc/sysctl.conf and reboot.

Ive tried your fix but i still have no sound on VLC or on firefox (Youtube)




is there a way to reset sound settings and start from scratch ? im afraid ive made a mess trying to fix the sound issue
