Wrong file timestamps on NFS Volume with Thunar

Post by stefan »

Hello,

I installed GhostBSD XFCE-Edition one week ago and everything works very well. I installed the latest ISO 23.06.01 and
installed all updates.

Now I notice a strange thing. My GhostBSD system is a NFS-Client which mounts a NFS-Share from an OmniOS Server.
In Thunar (4.18.6) the modification time of a file on the NFS-Share is 2 hours different from the real modification
time. NTP is running on both NFS-Server an NFS-Client. The 'date' command shows the same correct time and timezone on
both NFS-Server and NFS-Client. When I do an 'ls -laF' in a terminal on both NFS-Server and NFS-Client the correct modification
time of the file is shown. So I guess the fault is in Thunar? Has anybody noticed the same issue?

Thanks and best regards
Stefan

Can you edit in your post an examples of "good" ls -laF and "bad" ls -laF directory listings, please.

Re: Wrong file timestamps on NFS Volume with Thunar

Post by stefan »

Here are examples:

ls -laF on the GhostBSD Client:

-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 33606 9 Juli 12:29 ghostbsd_backup_station.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 2000099 9 Juli 12:22 ghostbsd_desktop_mate.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 191478 9 Juli 18:42 ghostbsd_software_station.png

ls -laF on the OmniOS Server:

-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 33606 Jul 9 12:29 ghostbsd_backup_station.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 2000099 Jul 9 12:22 ghostbsd_desktop_mate.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 stefan users 191478 Jul 9 18:42 ghostbsd_software_station.png

You see that the timestamps are the same when I do an 'ls -laF' on client and server.

But this is what Thunar shows on the GhostBSD Client:

ghostbsd_backup_station.png 09.07.2023 10:29:41
ghostbsd_desktop_mate.png 09.07.2023 10:22:39
ghostbsd_software_station.png 09.07.2023 16:42:12

There is a time difference of 2 hours.

here is 'date' on the GhostBSD Client:

So. 9 Juli 2023 19:40:08 CEST

here is 'date' on the OmniOS Server:

Sun Jul 9 19:40:08 CEST 2023

uname -aKmnopr
FreeBSD ghostbsd 13.2-STABLE FreeBSD 13.2-STABLE GENERIC amd64 amd64 1302505

Thunar shows the wrong timestamps of the files.

Re: Wrong file timestamps on NFS Volume with Thunar SOLVED!!

Problem solved!

I set the TZ environment variable in my .profile to Europe/Berlin and now Thunar displays the correct timestamps.
