Did your printer work okay with Linux or Windows? Your printer doesn't seem to be recognised. Is it connected by USB?

@NevilleGoddard

The printer is hooked up the the pc which is then hooked up to the router. And it did work with the Linux distros w/o any issues. It would either see in the printer device mangers or I could have the cups site install it and would work perfectly on the Linux installs. I'm wondering if that issue I had with the cups site installing the printer here isn't findng the cups/drivers needed to have the printer print properly. Know that it sounds like grasping at straws but I just got to wondering that.

I can't understand why it's turning out like this.

Thanks for helping me out on this issue.

Is any of that any use or do you need me to look for something else as well?

@NevilleGoddard

I decided to hook up the printer usb cable to the laptop. At first wasn't able to do anything. Tried cups. Got it going and it printed garbage as before. Then went back to using the HPlip trying the other three options again. Deciided to use the third option of it where you were hooking up to the wify with the usb then remove afterwards. It actually showed it bing installed, seeing my wifi and everything. But, when I got to the part where it said to do the hp-select along with the IP address that it showed I got this error message like times before. So, I unpluged it from teh printer's usb and called it quits for the night. Don't know why I keep getting this or what it's wanting.

I went to /user/local/share/ppd/HP and saw a /usr/local/share/ppd/HP/hp-officejet_5200_series.ppd.gz listed there. So,, that should be picked up already when it shows conneced to the wifi and telling me to do the hp-setup xxx.xxx.x.xxx right?

Then if so far I had everything going correctly except for getting that error message when doing the last step there I have to be missing something. Correct?? But what --qt3 am I needing? This isn't making any sense.

Thanks

Try
hp-setup --qt5

also when you use cups, did you try the option of providing a ppd file?

Yes, but wasn't able to find. the ppd file. Later after deciding to break away from it a bit I decided to just go into the files and looked around ai this location /usr/local/share/ppd. I saw a bunch of printer ppds all in the gz format including the HP 5200 that I'm needing. Are you supposed to extract them someplace or just point the browse when providing the ppd file to that and let it extract on it's own?

Thanks

Interesting. Tried doing the hp-setup --qt5 and got the following:

	(Note: You may have to run 'lsusb' from /sbin or another location. Use '$ locate lsusb' to determine this.)

I had extracted the hp 5200 driver gz to the proper location and then tried cups. I did the pointing to the ppd and told to open. I got an error complaining about it being an illegal string and would use it. So went back to the wifi setup. And now am stuck in this spot. We've made a lot of progress and I do now show installed but I jsut can't get it tu hook to the IP because of what I'm showing here. But it's better than before.

Thanks
