Weird, Concerning Experience!

Post by mdiemer » Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:46 pm

Just had a very strange thing happen. On Ghost OS, I was on my music forum, and listened to a member's music. The link took me to YouTube. After listening, I stepped away from my computer awhile, and when I returned, it looked like someone had opened a terminal and was changing a bunch of settings. The pointer was moving around from line to line. I shut my computer down immediately, and am now on Linux.

Anyone have any idea what this was? It appeared that someone had taken over my computer and was busy hacking it. Or is there another explanation? how concerned should I be?

That is a first, but yeah you should be very concern.

Is your network under a Firewall?

Did you installed any remote client?

Is there anyone else using your network?

Is your network accessible outside your network?

This is a private network, at home. No one else uses it, unless it's someone getting in from near our house, but they would need to be versed in BSD, right? I just upgraded my router's security and changed the password. I had previously disabled remote services in our Windows systems, but did not do so in Ghost. I have disconnected the hard drive Ghost is on for now, until I figure out what happened.

It's a forum for classically oriented composers. Do you think it might have been someone on the forum?

I just realized, that forum uses Flash Player. Well known for vulnerabilities. I'm wondering if this is the culprit, the way they got in?

Flash is not installed in GhostBSD. Can you please give more details. Are you still running GhostBSD?
