Lenovo Legion Y530 install and boot failure

Post by conpaul503 »

Hi Guys
I really do like what you have done !!

Ghost BSD aafter install reboot fails and locks system completely. The Zip file contains all hardware etc.

The issues occur on versions 19.x through to 20.03 and (devel 20.04) XFCE/MATE/KDE

During install cannot select Nvidia Driver , have to select start with no config
External USB SSD Scandisk Ghost BSD will only install if I use partition manager to wipe data and then format to NTFS. UFS/ZFS impacted
System will install ZFS/UFS fails to boot after restart (UEFI RFI and Legacy ) fails in single and normal boot so I can never get any logs etc
True Os and FuryBSD also have the same problem fyi.

Free Bsd 12.1 and 13 install in ZFS or UFI mode, No problems. I did try to use https://github.com/ghostbsd/ghostbsd-build on a fresh FREEBSD 12.1, in the hope that I could create install iso that, however the when I execute ./build.sh it fails claiming that a True Os Kernel is required.

Is it possible to create an image using FreeBSD kernel ? I did try to see if I could remove the True Os dependancy .

I cannot get the Nvida Video card or the Realtek Sound card working on Ghost BSD any help much appreciated

This is a constant issue with newer laptops and conflicts with ACPI, I suggest you try a vanilla freebsd current or be stuck like me with my Lenovo Lengion Y545 which fails to detect wifi card.

Rule: dont install BSD on newer HW it is rather slow to get things working.
