Heightened security with chflags

I'm thinking of storing passphrase [unhashed] for streamlining openvpn use.
This means having a file with the passcode in it that the .ovpn script references.
I can chmod the file to 600 and make it owner specific
I can then chown root the file to make it root only.
My question when using Ghost is...
Is the utility:
# chflags hidden
a possibility?
The man page is cryptic to say the least.

As passphrases become increasingly longer and their use not always applicable to password manager applications, are there methods like chflags to help out and not stuff up the beauty of using Ghost?

Any ideas?
