cinnamon

Post by ASX »

cinnamon ISO appear to work correctly if the hardware provide 3D acceleration.

I was unable to find a better definition of the requirements, but I guess we could add that cinnamon require at least support for OpenGL 3.2 or greater. (Actually I'm not sure about the required OpenGL version, in fact I was unable to find what is the required version, but I came to that result after reading about cinnamon related problems).

When HW support is not available, the desktop is slow and the icon text font is black instead of the normal white.

I tested a few system so far:
Ati Radeon RV100, OpenGL 1.3 - not work
Ati Radeon HD3430 OpenGL 4.1 - WORK
Intel (.... ) - OpenGL 2.1 - not work
nvidia - cannot be tested from live session, because of missing driver

(the info about OpenGL version provided can be gathered from "glxinfo" output)

The system using the intel graphics was interesting, because "3D" was working, but cinnamon fallback to 2D rendering, which led me to investigate the hardware requirements.

That said, I searched for a way to change settings in Cinnamon, and came across this discussion:

cinnamon's "system-info" doesn't appear to work, it open an empty window ....
