Re: Newbie Fouled Up System with 10.4 Upgrade
ASX: my spelling on the disk slice id was only in my post; it was correct on my system. When I repeated the fsck attempt, I got the same result. I ran: gpart show -p which told me that the filesystem on ada0p2 (there is no line through the zero, but it is a zero; I was careful about that) is clearly...

Re: Newbie Fouled Up System with 10.4 Upgrade
ASX: thank you. I will double check my spelling on the disk ID. I was not clear on this, but yes, i did run freebsd-update install.

Re: Newbie Fouled Up System with 10.4 Upgrade
ASX: thanks for your quick and kind reply. When I tried to fsck the drive, I got: fsck -fy /dev/adaop2 fsck: could not determine file system type print file system type print not found When I touched the power button to initiate shutdown, I saw at the top of the text readout: casper 103 slim: login_...

Newbie Fouled Up System with 10.4 Upgrade
This is not a panic, since I have a very nice 11.1 system running on another disk, which is what I'm sending this from. But reading about 10.4 made me curious, so I looked up upgrading Ghost 10.3 to 10.4 in "the usual way". After some investigation, I ran: freebsd-update -r 10.4-RELEASE up...

Re: Latest Updates Bring MATE 1.8 to Ghost 10.3
Kraileth: you are correct, it's 1.12 to 1.18.. I'm puzzled, but will accept the possibility that I hadn't updated 10.3 since October 1. In any case, it's a huge and much appreciated update, and my congratulations to the team on successfully putting this together. A 1 GB upgrade that runs that...

Latest Updates Bring MATE 1.8 to Ghost 10.3
My 10.3 update this afternoon was huge (> 1GB!), but upgraded MATE from 1.2 to 1.8, and that's welcome. Just an fyi, and thanks to the team.

Re: Suspend/resume
On my 11.1 system, "suspend" will suspend, but not reawaken; I have to force the hardware to shut down and then reboot. I've had difficulty with acpi-related functions in the past with both BSD and Linux, and did some fair research. My conclusion was that anything acpi-related depends stro...

Re: i386 / 32 bit GhostBSD
I've pretty much purged my 32-bit machines. I do still have one old 32-bit lap top running Puppy Linux, which I keep in my workshop simply to play streaming music with (it has a nice sound system), but is pretty much worthless for other web use. Many of us who have some experience with PC's end up i...

Speed Compliment
My Ghost 11.1/MATE install boots from post to password login in 45 seconds, and has the desktop ready to go in a minute and 15 seconds, including typing in the username and password. And that's with a 10-year old Asus M2N-MX mobo with an Athlon processor and 4 GB of RAM. Good job, guys.
