Switch to ZFS?

I have a (hopefully) quick question. I am currently using UFS Enoch and I am thinking about switching to ZFS. I have 3 identical 1TB disks 16gb of RAM and my CPU is an FX-8350. I was wondering if, to make full use of ZFS would I have to get rid of the data and file system on my 2 spare disks and add...

Re: GhostBSD and OpenRC

Thanks for the info and the reply kraileth. Please understand I wasn't disagreeing with what you said. I agree that a faster system would be a huge plus. I just thought it would be possible to replace the current init system in GhostBSD with OpenRC without any negative side affects at all, since it ...

Re: GhostBSD and OpenRC

Perhaps I should make a couple of things clear. Kris Moore himself claims that boot times are much faster with OpenRC. He says that boot times in his i7 CPU SSD equipped laptop went from 1 minute 20 seconds to 20 seconds. But if changing to OpenRC means a break from FreeBSD ecosystem then definitely...

Re: GhostBSD and OpenRC

Hi, ASX, I compared the two options by remembering the boot time for the old init version of TrueOS which was then PC-BSD. It took almost 2 minutes to boot. I downloaded the latest version of TrueOS which had OpenRC and boot times were much faster. In my experience, boot times with ZFS were slower c...

GhostBSD and OpenRC

Hi! I hope I'm not offending anybody by suggesting this. I watched a video on YouTube called "Kris Moore - Unveiling TrueOS,MeetBSD2016" in which he mentions he has successfully ported OpenRC to TrueOS and this has significantly improved boot up times. I myself tried TrueOS on my old lapto...

Re: Packages Requests for GhostBSD

Hello ASX Thanks again for GhostBSD! I'm using Enoch Xfce I install xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin. This makes it much easier to search for installed applications. Also catfish. This is a file search utility. I set this up with a custom command in Thunar. For printing I install hplip. To copy files to and ...

GhostBSD XFCE

First of all, I would like to thank you for GhostBSD. I'm currently using it on a Toshiba Satellite laptop model number A205-S5825 and everything works perfectly. In fact the wireless card works better on GhostBSD than FreeBSD. If I used wireless on FreeBSD with this laptop, it would hang on reboot ...
