Re: Grub Broken After Repository Upgrade
Thank you ASX; fortunately, the typo was in my posting, not in my fsck line. I've installed FreeBSD before, and I understand the different disk identifiers. Since I've worked a lot with older machines, I keep a copy of Seagate Seatools on a thumb drive. I used it here to run "Erase all" as...

Re: Nvidia problem
The first time I tried installing the nvidia driver, it was simply: pkg install nvidia-driver-340 nvidia-xconfig nvidia-settings nvidia-xconfig I rebooted, and the nvidia driver ran immediately and automatically. This time, after fixing my HD and reinstalling GBD, I ran the above again, and rebooted...

Re: Grub Broken After Repository Upgrade
First, thank you; this was the answer I was looking for. For the sake of documentation, slim would not log into the GhostBSD/MATE/AMD64 iso as root, only as ghostbsd. I did so, went to Applications/Accessories, and clicked on the root terminal. It opened with a warning, but gave me root access. gpar...

Grub Broken After Repository Upgrade
Hi, I tried to upgrade my 10.3/MATE/AMD64 repositories as per: http://forums.ghostbsd.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=715 After finishing the revision and adding the FreeBSD.conf file, I clicked on it to double check the contents. Of all things, LibreOffice started to open and then hung; the cursor wou...

Edit MATE menu?
I must apologize for another question; I'm still working my way through my new install. I want to rearrange the entries in the MATE menu. If I click on System/Control Center/Main Menu, I get the right window, but no changes that I make stick. So as root I type "mozo", and get the same menu...
Sysinfo?
I'm running Ghost BSD on an home built machine with an older Asus M2N-MX motherboard, Athlon 64 dual core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 210 video card. The install went well, although after a few boot ups my passwords quit working. Thank you ASX for helping with that! Installing the nVidia d...

Re: Root and User Passwords Both Bolixed
ASX: thank you, that worked; I'm now responding from my Ghost BSD system. For the record, (and my motive here is to learn the correct way, not to defend my ego..~(;^})=..) Lehey's book, which is copyrighted 2003, states on page 148: "If you do manage to lose the root password, all may not be lo...

Root and User Passwords Both Bolixed
Suddenly, neither my root nor standard user passwords will log me into Ghost BSD. I pulled out my copy of "The Complete FreeBSD" by Lehey, and based on what was suggested, booted into support mode and selected the bash shell. I then typed: mount -u mount -usr but got an error message about...

Re: CUPS Bunged Up on New Install
Thanks, finally got back in town after spending a week looking after grandkids. There is no PCL driver available in the Ghost BSD version of CUPS on my machine. There are Postscript and Gutenprint/Foomatic drivers; I reinstalled the printer with one of the Gutenprint drivers, and that fixed the prob...
