Re: testing the "test" repository

Updated a fresh Alpha-1 installation using the new repo and everything seems to work well. This will be the foundation for Alpha-2, I guess? When that's out, I'll put it on a few different machines and try various programs. ASX: This is now just our own "copy" of the FreeBSD packages, right? Or are ...

Since there is no such repo, I would assume that you actually meant test?

Re: New display manager for GhostBSD.

How did you take a screenshot of your login screen? ASX is right. However for a special kind of debugging there's actually a better way: Xephyr. I've mentioned it in one of the first posts; it's a nested version of the X11 server which can come in quite handy. Basically you fire it up, giving it th...

Re: New display manager for GhostBSD.

Also you can focus on your password when you login by editing the slim.conf file. I never enter my user name. :D Since I'm sharing some of my computers with my wife, that's not really an option. And while I admit that it's a bit special, our situation is even more complex: We use different keymaps ...

type "halt" or "reboot" (and provide the root password) and it will do!

You need an emergency terminal, type "console". ;)
You're right, forgot the possibility of halting or rebooting that way. And I didn't know the console command. Still all of that is not extremely intuitive.

Re: New display manager for GhostBSD.

Nice work, kraileth! Just asking, but other than not being maintained, what's wrong with slim? Looks like Eric has actually done all the work, so don't thank me for it. ;) What's wrong with SLiM? Well, a lot actually. Yes, it's unmaintained. But the more important thing is that it is severely lacki...

Re: New display manager for GhostBSD.

Lightdm can be configured in various ways. I just took a very quick look at what it can do. Right now there's only the gtk greeter in ports on FreeBSD. I'll take a look at the other greeters, too, and report back here. However chances are that the gtk greeter (it's also the default greeter) would be...

Re: MATE 1.18 ports is ready for testing.

Ok, I erased an old Thinkpad X61s laptop and put a fresh install of FreeBSD 11.0 on there. Then I updated it using freebsd-update, installed and setup synth as well as ccache. As a next step I fetched current ports with portsnap, deleted all the old ports for MATE and put the new ones in their place...

Re: Upgrade to 11 or even -current...

Feel free to post again if you're interested in that yep , i´m interested ! Alright! -STABLE and -CURRENT are built from source. The first thing to do is to make sure that your source directory is empty and then checkout the latest -STABLE code from SVN: rm -rf /usr/src/* svnlite co svn://svn.freeb...
