yes, Nvidia 340.96 is the latest supporting the 8400/8600 series, and yes the info are up to date, preferred method using pkg install.

GhostBSD 10.3-alpha-amd64 in vbox

Just installed ghostbsd 10.3 alpha in vbox, using a ZFS setup, installation went fine, with minor problems.
I will detail the problem each on his own thread, but basically is installed and working as expected. nice job!

Well, booting from USB stick may seems worst only because it is faster than booting from DVD, really it look the same to me. Hmm ... there could a number of things other than power failure .... You could try (for test at least) to disable some features from BIOS: try to enable a single core, disable hyperthreading ... (I have found at least one report about freebsd and i5 2300 where FreeBSD didn't worked when SMP was enab...
