Gnome 3 Is not ready under FreeBSD yet.

Normally you are suppose to boot on a graphical interface call gdm not a shell.

What graphic card you have? Can you look at xorg.conf?

What card you have and can you look at xorg.conf.

you can update the FreeBSD base system true freebsd-update command. freebsd-update fetch install But to upgrade to next version of GhostBSD it is not possible yet. But when this tool will be done. I run Openbox Gnome2 and LXDE on P3 with 512 of ram I have never seen Gnome going more then 256. The only problem might be Firefox.
