Perhaps this link will give you some clues. I use a huawei usb modem with MXlinux and that distro uses the usbnet + cdc_ether drivers. Always hooks up for me with MXlinux 17.

I removed the cups-base package. Then continued with the octopkg upgrade. added kldload "cuse4bsd" & "cuse" to /etc/defaults/rc.conf. Also added gdm_enable=YES to /etc/defaults/rc.conf.

pkg update and upgrade hangup (SOLVED)

Hey there,
After a fresh install of 10.1, i ran pkg update and pkg upgrade. This is the output from the upgrade hangup; pkg: cups-2.1.3_2 conflicts with cups-base-2.0.3_3 (installs files into the same place). Problematic file: /usr/local/bin/cancel So the upgrade did not finish. What to do ?

Hello,

Is there a correct sequence for upgrading packages and system updates ?
should octopkg, update manager, or portsnap fetch be used and in what sequence ?
This will be on a clean install of 10.1 mate.

1) install vlc with octopkg.
2)install ports : as root :a) portsnap fetch; then b) portsnap extract
3) install libdvdcss : cd /usr/ports/multimedia/libdvdcss/ && make install clean
