Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

I think I can effectively close this issue. I believe I have found the mode of failure and a couple of quirks along the way. I was able to burn the GhostBSD XFCE iso to DVD and boot to bare hardware. There was some hiccups with the boot up. I had to modify my BIOS (still using AMD Bulldozer) to enab...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

I'll look into it. When it freezes, have you tried pressing ctrl alt F1 then Ctrl alt F9? The active tty does not change the problem. In trying to track the problem, switching between ttys was done numerous times. No, I do not think this is package related. Again, IMO, there is an active widget bei...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

neville - the Vimix theme issue, IMO, stems from github repos not being maintained. GhostBSD project on github shows a Mate and XFCE Theme repos. Mate is kept up to date but the XFCE is lagging. As this theme is the default for the Live CD, a bug from 2019 still shows up for XFCE but not for Mate. ...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

ericbsd - I just had a look at the GhostBSD XFCE themes repo. It is out of date and thus contains the Vimix github issue mentioned earlier. I'd do a pull request if I knew what needs to be pulled across from the Vimix github repo. Looks like a manual folder compare (or prolific use of meld). I'll t...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

It appears that the problem with bad value in theme warnings stem from Vimix theme gtk.css files. This was flagged as an issue there ( github #140 ) in 2019 and resolved. GhostBSD shows that Vimix was updated to "latest" this year but there may be some kind of disconnect. After manually ed...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

As expected, Mate desktop does not exhibit same behavior. Triggering screen blanking with sleep 1; xset s activate causes expected screen blanking activation with desktop returning on mouse movement. Console tty1 output is shown in attached image. Problem appears with XFCE screen blanking and some k...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

XFCE ISO was obtained via torrent so integrity of ISO is, in my mind, not in question. However, verified sha256 sum as correct. The video card for VirtualBox instance should only be of concern when utilizing certain features (i.e. clipboard sharing, specialized display modes, etc). The instance was ...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

A google search indicated that XFCE changed a few things in terms of Power Settings and Screensaver Settings with the release of XFCE 4.16. I went to tweak settings in the XFCE to produce repeatable steps to indicate the problem. Here is what has been done... 1. Started LiveCD and started XFCE setti...

Re: [Community XFCE] Unresponsive GUI

neville While those are all good answers to delay/disable screensaver or blanking, they do not address the root cause of unresponsive UI after a delay. It is troublesome that the problem occurs on the Live disc. The install process happens and I walk away for a few minutes to let it all happen. I c...

[Feature Request] Install clarity - machine/user information

Don't get me wrong, graphical install is top notch. However,... there's just something missing (or details are unclear) during the install. User goes through setting up new root password. And then goes straight into new user setup. What would be "nice" is an explicit page for setting up th...
