Veracrypt doesn't work with a regular user, only with root

Hello, I really like the concept of GhostBSD! And I've built my version with a builder and now I have a GhostBSD USB which has a Veracrypt program which I need. Unfortunately, I've been struggling recently to make it work. I can create a Veracrypt volume but I can't mount any as a regular user. I get an issue "Broken pipe VeraCrypt::File::Write:395". A similar problem on Arch Linux forums got a response that this is linked to the user running the program not having sudo permissions. The user running the program is ghostbsd. I've edited the sudoers file with visudo (giving ghostbsd ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL permissions) but the problem stays. Running Veracrypt as root makes it work, but I'd prefer to run it as a regular user. Any help would be most welcomed, thanks!

can you use sudo as the ghostbsd user to perform other tasks? i.e. install packages?
What I would try is to use visudo to uncomment the wheel section:

Uncomment to allow members of group wheel to execute any command
%wheel ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

then add your user to the wheel group (in this case user is ghostbsd)

or even try to add the ghostbed user to the wheel and operator groups

I know I had to set up sudo on my freebsd installs but now i cannot remember but ghostbsd should have sudo already set up.

I think that the wheel part in visudo is already uncommented (since it does not have a "#" in front of "%wheel").
ghostbsd user was already in the wheel group the last time I've tried to run Veracrypt. It could run sudo commands.
I will try to add ghostbsd to operators.

You're correct that wheel is already uncommented and you said ghostbsd is in the wheel group so the operator group is a shot in the dark

I don't use veracrypt so I cannot offer much help, I tried snooping around and it looks like there are many factors to your issue... I hope you can find a solution

Adding ghostbsd to "operator" group didn't help, unfortunately. If launched via sudo (sudo veracrypt) it is run as superuser and works, but this is not what I'd like - I'd want for Veracrypt to work as a regular user just like in Linux (when you can launch it as a user and then input root password once inside veracrypt so that it could mount volumes), ~~otherwise there are significant convenience issues with access permissions for mounted veracrypt volumes, etc.~~
UPD: After more testing, the convenience issues aren't that bad. I am not sure how, but veracrypt mounts new volumes as accessible to a regular user even if run as root. Still, I suspect that this is not the way veracrypt was intended to run on unix-like systems based on my Linux experience.

Sounds like it working to a certain degree to how you want. If ( sudo veracrypt ) works then I think its ok, you are using the users elevated privileges, not running as root.

I am just trying to bounce ideas back and forth, two minds working on the problem... I am curious, when using veracrypt on linux, how do you launch it? is there a gui icon in your programs list or from terminal? if from terminal do you just type veracrypt and then a password? if so what would happen if you tried sudo veracrypt?

miscreant On Linux one just launches Veracrypt as a regular user, then enters the root password one time when it needs to mount a volume. So Veracrypt doesn't run with elevated privileges all that much unlike in my case here.

Is it possible to auto mount at boot veracrypt volumes in bsd like it is with Linux?
