Apache OpenOffice

I have Ghost 14.3 installed on my Thinkpad T520. it does not have OpenOffice. Please don't mention Libreoffice.
Ver 15.x, testing, has OpenOffice. Before I nuke my install of 14.3, just verifying OpenOffice is not available for 14.3

Interesting, neither the software station nor 'pkg search ...' shows anything for openoffice and apache-openoffice on my GhostBSD 14.3-RELEASE-p8 box.

Just to confirm, I also ran:

sudo pkg install apache-openoffice
Updating GhostBSD repository catalogue...
GhostBSD repository is up to date.
Updating GhostBSD-base repository catalogue...
GhostBSD-base repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
pkg: No packages available to install matching 'apache-openoffice' have been found in the repositories

freshports.org shows apache-openoffice as being available for FreeBSD as 'openoffice-4'

Perhaps some change is delaying apache-openoffice from making it back into GhostBSD's repos.

It looks like the 14.3 build hasn’t been updated yet. The issue does not appear on the 15.0 beta (testing) version, where everything is working as expected.

If you need this immediately, you can install the beta (testing) ISO and proceed without issue. If it is not urgent, it would be reasonable to wait for the official 15.0 release. The beta is already stable in practice, and the official ISO is expected once the updated i386 Wine libraries are available.

Open Office has not had a feature update in over a decade. There have been security updates with a fairly recent one in Nov of last year. Anyway hopefully new version with BSD includes the latest security patch?

I'll just mention LibreOffice on Linux runs fine performance-wise on my TP520 and TP530 laptops. Certainly you are free to run Open Office for a familiar simpler ease of use interface but personally I have moved on to the complexity of LibreOffice. The ancient java version required for Open Office is a bit troubling to me.

Note I would strictly avoid Only Office as it has Russian origins with lots of Russian comments in source code. This makes it difficult for non Russian speakers to contribute and understand the code. Nothing wrong with the Russian people or the language but the company behind Open Office hides it orgins and is a bit too close with the Russian government for my liking.

Thanks for the info. I am going to wait for 15.0-RELEASE. I run GhostBSD 15.0-TESTING in Virtualbox, working fine, look forward to bare metal.

My Thinkpad died, old age.
I salvaged memory and ssd. I have an IdeaPad , similar vintage , upped memory to 8G from 4G, installed the Ghost testing image from 4/7/2026. So far everything works, more will be revealed.
