Change gamma?

What is the right command? I remember typing xgamma -x.xx when I had Monjoro MATE.

RodMyers Got it, will the gamma stay after reboot? I think MATE might end up going Wayland, that is a big gripe I have. No way to change gamma yet (Been a few years guys!!!!) same to Nvidia enable changing brghtness/contrast & gamma again...

Yes, if I recall correctly, MATE relies on GTK, which is expected to move toward Wayland-only support in the future. Contrast adjustments can be made using the display-control application I shared previously. I’m not sure why xgamma is required in your setup. If a CLI version of the display-control app would be helpful, I can add that functionality. It’s not an issue, but if you prefer to stick with xgamma exclusively, I won’t pursue it further.

MATE is based on gtk3 and currently not planned for Wayland. The MATE lead developer is stepping down and asking if anyone would like to step up and maintain MATE. The direction could change depending if and what a new lead developer desires.

I have MATE/Linux on an old Thinkpad and well with GhostBSD on two old laptops (HP and Dell).

Wow, that’s a pretty important turning point for MATE.

It’s good that the current lead is being transparent and inviting someone new to step in, but it does highlight the broader challenge a lot of FOSS projects face: sustainability. Depending on who (if anyone) takes over, MATE could either modernize, stay stable and conservative, or gradually fall behind.
