I am a parts specialist and I do R&D for a refrigeration company that fixes restaurants and commercial size appliances.

I love to play golf , listen to all types of music and I love all technology.

I've been using GhostBSD on and off since 2011. The performance advantage over Linux is not subtle and it never has been. Zandronum went from ₂₀₀₀ frames to ₄₀₀₀. Ship of Harkinian went from a couple hundred to nearly 700 with the frame cap off. Bomberman 64 4-player split screen hit 900. The kernel is less bloated and the whole thing just runs like it should.
One of my primary goals for this project is getting the entire system built with clang+llvm down to the kernel. I've already seen what it does for userspace on GhostBSD it feels illegal. Imagine that applied all the way down. I'm prepared to submit whatever clang-tidy cleanup work it takes to get there. That's not a wish, that's a commitment.
The goal I'm bringing here: a GhostBSD handheld variant targeting the Steam Deck.
What this actually requires is not as far off as it sounds. The Van Gogh KO modules need to be built correctly and placed in the right locations. Touch input is the same story. The one real barrier is the internal speaker on the OLED model Valve ships a proprietary blob for that. My proposal is to make it a toggle. Users who want to stay clean use Bluetooth, USB-C, or the headphone jack. Nobody is forced to load the blob.
Longer term this slots into a bigger picture I'm working on with Vic Thacker around reproducible build artifacts and OS personalities on FreeBSD treating a successful build as a preserved, verifiable artifact rather than something you have to rediscover every time. That architecture would make a handheld variant something people can actually reuse, not just replicate by hand on every machine.
I don't have money to throw at this. I have time, passion, and over a decade of history with trying my heart out to make the "impossible" happen. If the codebase can be pointed at, I'll work on it.
I'm wiping my main systems over to GhostBSD full time. This is where my attention goes now.

I'm a non-technical user so I can't address builds and handheld stuff, clang+llvm. But a reply to your post seems overdue, and like you, I'm a GhostBSD "fanboy."

It is faster, leaner, and more uncluttered than Linux for sure! None of the corporate stuff shoved on users, no systemd (if that matters to you), Xlibre because X-11 has worked reliably for decades and now it's being maintained instead of deliberately killed to force Wayland on users.

I came over from Linux because GhostBSD is "ethically" unmarred by the strange "woke" madness that seems to be so much a part of Linux and FOSS in general.

@ericbsd can tell you how to contribute and what the project needs. The best I can do is send a little money and brag about GhostBSD awesomeness on my blog.
