So, for everyone to know where I am on age verification right now, I am against it.
For Brazil, we will not comply. The worst that could happen is that they could block the project's website and downloads in Brazil. We do not own an office in Brazil, we do not sell anything in Brazil, and we are not on their monitoring list.
In California, it is in law but has not taken effect yet, and there is time to see what the real impact will be. I am waiting to see what FreeBSD will do. I am also looking at what other open source projects come up with.
A sure thing is that where legislation does not require age verification, I do not want it in the system. States or countries that require some kind of ID verification by the system, or involve third parties in the verification process, like New York, will probably result in "This project cannot be used in New York State." or something along those lines.
Where only age brackets need to be provided, it is to be determined. I am not sure what to do, but again, it would only apply where legislation specifically asks for it. I need to make sure the project is protected from legal exposure. I expect backlash over this, and it could be what kills the project for me. If you have a problem with this, lash out at your lawmakers.
