There seems to be a problem with hplip npt seeing a required file. When I try to run xsane, it comes back with an error in /var/log/messages:
Jan 16 10:21:10 deborah-ghostbsd python3.11[1918]: io/hpmud/hpmud.c 318: invalid device_open state
Jan 16 10:21:45 deborah-ghostbsd xsane[5928]: common/utils.c 142: unable to find [plugin] version in /var/lib/hp/hplip.state
Jan 16 10:21:45 deborah-ghostbsd xsane[5928]: common/utils.c 162: validate_plugin_version() Failed to get Plugin version from [/var/lib/hp/hplip.state]
Jan 16 10:21:45 deborah-ghostbsd xsane[5928]: common/utils.c 206: Plugin version is not matching
Xsane comes back with:
Failed to open device `hpaio:/usb/Smart_Tank_5100_series?serial=TH53SBT2HJ.
Error during device I/O.
HPLIP comes back with a window:
"HP Device Manager - Plug-in Installer"
Driver Plug-in Installation is required.
HP Device requires proprietary plug-in which is missing. Click 'Next' to continue plug-in installation.
Clicking on 'Next' in the window brings up another window:
"HP Device Manager - Plug-in Installer"
(It tries to) Download and install the plug-in from an HP authorized server (recommended)
Clicking on 'Next':
It fails with a window that reads Plug-in install failed.
I get the following from /var/log/messages at this point:
Jan 16 10:43:49 deborah-ghostbsd hp-plugin[6620]: [6620]: error: Command failed with return code 127: sh /home/deborah/.hplip/hplip-3.25.8-plugin.run --keep --nox11 -- -u /usr/local/bin/python3.11 Creating directory plugin_tmp 0% HHHHHHH 36% HHHHHHH 73% HHHHHHH 100% 0% HHHHHHH 36% HHHHHHH 73% HHHHHHH 100% eval: ./hplip-plugin-install: not found

(NOTE: hplip-plugin-install not found!!!)
Can anyone verify that a recent HP all-in-one works with scanning?
This looks like an issue with hplip.
Thank you
Paul
