but installation fails os not booting to live environment

Even Ventoy has been tested by others to work. Do you know of EasyBoot working to boot GhostBSD ? I do not hear that EasyBoot works to boot Ghostbsd.iso image.
You PC needs 8GB ram minimum to boot live image GhostBSD from bare usb flash disk drive stick.

If you encounter boot issues (e.g., reboots or hangs), try the latest Ventoy release, verify the ISO integrity, or test on a dedicated USB (non-Ventoy) first. GhostBSD works well as live media for trying FreeBSD-like hardware compatibility without installation.

How much dram memory does your PC System have? 8 GB is minimum needed. What version of Ventoy did you use? GhostBSD does not guarantee that it can boot with Ventoy. I have heard of and previously used Ventoy myself to boot an older version of GhostBSD.

GhostBSD .ISO file increased in size in the newer GhostBSD.org releases. A decision was made to not support older PC Systems with less than 8GB dram. That is why you are experiencing a hang up. your 4GB dram memory is not large enough to hold a copy of the .ISO file in dram memory. On boot the .ISO file is copied to DRAM memory and then execute or run from there in DRAM memory. You can remove the USB flash drive stick, because it is not used anymore. You might try other BSDs, if they support 4GB dram size. NomadBSD is one that executes from the USB Flash Drive Stick, and may support 4GB dram size. I wish you well in your computer journey.

tsesani but be careful, not to use too old versions of GhostBSD, as there was a change in support of file systems (no UFS support anymore, moving to ZFS), that might be getting into trouble, when trying to upgrade from UFS to a pure ZFS based system. We all agreed back then (2-3 years?) to do a clean cut, install from scratch and cont. via upgrading. Someone might rem., what version did the cut exactly...

I was able to install GhostBSD via Ventoy. Used the latest 1.1.10 version. These shots are from a fairly old laptop. Looking to put Ghost back in a newer PC, after backing up a metric ton of data. (Well, haven't decided yet whether I will do it... will be a much longer task there if it happens as I want to do a triple boot setup.)

The pictures are helpful. MATE is a clean, simple desktop that is intuitive easy to use, and easy on resources than the big fancy resource hogs that Gnome and KDE have become. I do hope they can keep the rusty way(land)ward cruft out of Xfce and MATE going forward.

I spent two hours yesterday trying to format a USB stick and "dd" a copy of Devuan Linux for a friend, using the good old familiar commands (gpart destroy and gpart create, add, newfs, etc) without success. Probably a bad USB stick, I guessed, but then it worked flawlessly using the GUI tools from my old MX-Linux install on a different HDD.

I'm convinced that some computers just enjoy confusing and frustrating humans.
