Contributor Discussions Moving to GitHub

We're making a change to streamline our development process. Starting now, all contributor and development discussions will be moving to GitHub Discussions at https://github.com/orgs/ghostbsd/discussions.

Since our development work happens on GitHub, consolidating contributor discussions there will help unify our workflow and make it easier for everyone to collaborate on source code, tools, documentation, translations, and CI/CD automation all in one place.

The Contributors category here on the forums will be removed. If you have user support questions or need help using GhostBSD, this forum remains the right place for those discussions.

The Telegram GhostBSD Contributors' group was created as an experiment to evaluate whether Telegram was an effective communication platform for GhostBSD development. The premise was straightforward: if the platform facilitated meaningful collaboration, it would remain useful; if it did not, it could be replaced by a better alternative.

One observation from the experiment is that many people joined the Contributors' group but contributed little, if anything, to the project itself. While the group attracted participants and discussion, that activity rarely translated into sustained development work or meaningful collaboration. As a result, the level of contributor engagement fell short of expectations.

GitHub Discussions can be viewed as another experiment in project communication and community engagement. Its long-term value will ultimately depend on whether it succeeds in encouraging productive participation and contributions to the project.

Given those observations, it is somewhat surprising that the GhostBSD Contributors' group remains available. Its continued existence suggests that the original experiment was never formally concluded, despite the limited evidence that it produced the level of contributor engagement that had been hoped for.

Github is owned by Microsoft, I wouldn't trust them. Reddit,mght be ok, but it is like a 8 year old put the site together...

Moving the contributor discussion to GhostBSD's Patreon site might be another option. Everyone would need to pay a subscription fee to stay informed between public release announcements. The move would increase funding for the project which would be greatly beneficial. Currently we have more bots than core team contributors.

This repository does not accept external pull requests or unsolicited patches.

GhostBSD is developed by the core project team. The public repository is provided for source transparency, community review, and local builds under the terms of the BSD 2-Clause License (see LICENSE).

If you find a bug or have an idea for an improvement, please open an issue to discuss it. Feedback, bug reports, and feature requests are welcome, even though code contributions are not accepted through pull requests.

If you'd like to follow the project's development and see what the core team is working on, consider subscribing to GhostBSD's Patreon, where development updates and progress reports are posted regularly.

Security reports

Please report security vulnerabilities through the process described in SECURITY.md. Do not disclose vulnerabilities by opening a public issue.

Licensing

By downloading or using this source, you agree that your use is governed by the BSD 2-Clause License. Because this repository does not accept external code contributions, no contributor license agreement is required.
