As stated elsewhere Gershwin is a preview meant to drive developer interest. I am very thankful to GhostBSD for allowing it to be released as a preview. It has helped gather interest, and has resulted in more contributors, and feedback.
While the reviews have been good, bad the overall feedback loop has been very helpful in allowing me to move Gershwin forward. I realize I have put together something that only a niche audience will appreciate right now. If you have not used GNUstep you are more likely not going to get it or be very interested in what Gershwin has to offer at the moment.
Think of like this. FreeBSD like GNUstep has a small fan base. Like FreeBSD the more you dig in you can see for its faults it’s well architected. The whole system only consumes 30 MB on disk, is very easy to develop new applications for, and it’s POSIX.
Why being in GhostBSD matters. It helps a project like Gershwin evolve out of the science experiment stages and being just a technical exercise. I can now use it daily in GhostBSD to do more things. Gershwin is nothing if it cannot be upgraded and there is no feedback loop. The press matters. The feedback matters. It’s also giving exposure to GNUstep. So even if you don’t like it yet, thank you for at least allowing me to bring it here so I can make it something really cool.
