Volume drop down is blank

New user here. (all time Windows user)
Fresh install on Dell Inspiron 5559.

The sound module in settings is finding the hardware, but the volume control in the system tray is not working, and the drop down menu is blank.

Installed devices:
pcm0: <Realtek ALC255 (Internal Analog)> (play/rec) default
pcm1: <Realtek ALC255 (Front Analog Headphones)> (play)
pcm2: <Intel Skylake (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play)
No devices installed from userspace.

As a quick workaround, I created this application today for you: xcrsz/mixergui

wget xcrsz/mixerguiblob/main/mixergui
chmod +x mixergui
sudo ./mixergui

I hope it works works for you.

Thank you very much for the help.
But I'm afraid the workaround didn't solve the issue. I got the mixer UI and it has no effect in the volume whatsoever.
I must be missing something?

The mixergui application allows you to select which audio device you want to use. If it is not working for you, perhaps there is either a firmware, driver, or hardware issue. Using a USB audio adapter is a workaround. This is what I do on older hardware.

As for myself, I am no longer actively involved in open source development. However, I continue to create small applications, such as mixergui, primarily to inspire others and support the community in modest ways.
