GhostBSD USB Installation - Rescue

Hey dear GhostBSD Community,

I am new to GhostBSD and would like to run it as my new Operating System instead of Windows! However, I've downloaded the official GhostBSD image from the France mirror and burnt it onto my 8GB USB Stick using Rufus for the first time and win32 disk imager for a second attempt. Unfortunately, after GhostBSD boots into multiple user mode (the default) regardless which image tool I've used, it fails and tells me the following:
mount_cd9660: /dev/iso9660/GHOSTBSD: No such file or directory

prompting me to enter the full pathname of shell or RETURN for /rescue/sh.

Could someone help me out? Any advices?

I am using AMD Ryzen 5600X with an NVIDIA RTX 3080 and MSI B550 Tomahawk motherboard. FreeBSD 14.2 installs successfully, whatsoever I'd prefer GhostBSD tho.

masc Don't use Rufus. Use your FreeBSD machine to write the image to a USB thumb drive.

Steps:

Insert the USB thumb drive.

Run the following commands:

mount  
sudo umount /dev/da0  
sudo gpart destroy -F da0  
sudo dd if=GhostBSD-24.10.1.iso of=/dev/da0 bs=1m

Notes:

mount will show something like:

/dev/da0 on /media/da0 (cd9660, local, read-only)

You must unmount the USB before clearing it.
gpart is a solid way to wipe the drive clean.
dd is a reliable way to write the image to disk.

Nikitos230 masc To write an ISO file to a USB thumb drive, do the following steps:

Insert the USB thumb drive.
Run the following commands:
mount
sudo umount /dev/da0
sudo gpart destroy -F da0
sudo dd if=Linux-madness-of-choice.iso of=/dev/da0 bs=1m

Notes:

mount will show something like:
/dev/da0 on /media/da0 (cd9660, local, read-only)
You must unmount the USB before clearing it.
gpart is a solid way to wipe the drive clean.
dd is a reliable way to write the image to disk.

Did you check the MD5 or SHA256 of the iso image you downloaded? Does it match what is on the ghostbsd.org download page?

> md5 /path/to/image/file/GhostBSD-24.10.1.iso
MD5 (/PathToImageFile/GhostBSD-24.10.1.iso) = 6b72b6479828f284fb9098306db179c1

Also try downloading the image from a different mirror. Or try using a different 8Gb USB stick.

I've tried the Canadian mirror also, the checksum is always the same as referenced on the download page. In other words, the sha256 checksums match and its an mirror-independent issue. I used another already with Ventoy, same result.

Update:
The issue was caused by a USB stick that cannot be used as bootable media. Another one fixed the issue 😃
