Question about kernel build

Hello all! When I install GhostBSD on one of my machines everything works great, except wireless. I did the necessary updates and rebuilt the kernel but then my mouse and keyboard no longer work. Couldn't figure out why so instead I reinstalled from scratch.
On a brand new install, I only do pkg install src, pkg install ports, pkg install 'GhostBSD*-dev' and then attempt to rebuild the kernel with the GENERIC kernel config. No other changes. It builds, I reboot and X no longer starts automatically, and the mouse and keyboard do not work.
Is there some way to capture whatever the kernel configuration it used during the install, since that was almost perfect?

How did you update? With update-station or by command line?
Also what is your wifi card. Also next time an update goes pear shaped you can always boot into the previous boot environment and try again

I've actually tried it several times. One time I updated with update station first, then tried the rebuild. Once I updated with pkg update and upgrade. One time I did not update, just the install of src, ports and dev tools. Each time the results were the same. My wifi card is a Broadcom 4322 so I was going to attempt to load the bwn driver and options, but the tests above were without even doing that. So just installing, and then attempting to build the kernel with no modifications to GENERIC.
I reinstalled each time because it takes about 5 minutes so I figured why not.

Just curious but why did you rebuild the kernel?

Neville Because I was going to incorporate the bwn driver and the BWN_PHY_GPL option but when that wasn't working (same results as above) I just wanted to try and see if I could rebuild it with no changes.

This has worked fine in previous versions of GhostBSD. But even making sure that the same config files (xorg, loader, rc, sysctl) as before the rebuild and reboot, the mouse and keyboard still stopped working. Are there additional drivers that are built into the installed kernel that aren't in GENERIC?

Thanks, this is basically how I enabled the driver so we're good there. But really what I would like to know is why, with no changes to anything, recompiling the kernel kills the mouse and keyboard? Is there something that needs to be added to GENERIC to enable the mouse and keyboard the way it is in the freshly installed environment?

pallen38 Recompiling the kernel is not recommended on GhostBSD. If something is needed for a driver to work, open an issue at ghostbsd/issuesissues .

Your building the kernel is very much interest to my use of building GhostBSD kernel from source code to work on the Raspberry Pi 4B. What you learn is very much interest to me for the same reasons as you posted.

Lets talk and share notes. blogger.com you can create a place to post your blog notes. Use another service, if google is not good for you to post your notes. Do you have another solution for sharing large notes, with PNG pictures, CODE, DIagrams built with 'DIA' diagram editor.
