I think he's currently prioritizing other efforts. He rejoined Telegram, albeit, quietly.

I hope he comes back to the forum. He is a very competent person. who I will miss here on the forum.

I wrote this in Telegram but it feels like it should go here.

Without knowing anything about his personal life or work, his level of participation in Ghost was significant - spanning high level (communication) and low level (code). The psuedo-political drama definitely was not part of anything he wanted to be involved in or forced to wade through to participate in GhostBSD. While I can’t speak to his prior experiences with that kind of derailing behavior in live social spaces. He lamented on/warned of the downfall of other projects around similar issues and made his position clear.

I remain hopeful that he’ll share a sliver of his time, but I feel like he’s a bit of a on/off kind of person. I noted his absence almost immediately. These days, I sometimes wonder who I am asking questions to when I post, as I recognize that I personally enjoyed his style of writing and seemingly unending depth of knowledge. His willingness to engage in concept and technical queries always impressed me.

Perhaps, this is a wake-up-call to each of us to contribute as we are able and continue to improve our own breadth and depth.

At any rate, I’ve personally resolved to;

continue my high level (communication and testing) efforts
tentatively expand my low level skills (script-code)

I don t think, Vic left us for good, maybe on Telegram, like Alexander Vereeken did and gave me a chance on Mastodon to stay in contact.
But I m sure, Vic will help with his great skills and knowledge further, at least here in the forums!
But as I always say: a day has only 24hs, although sometimes I d have work for 48... ;-)
So, maybe there are a lot of tasks for him to concentrate on, besides these forums.

It has been said that it takes multiple positive experiences to offset a single negative one.

So, to your point, in connecting directly where you find alignment.

I think it’s important to call out (recognize) the valued contributions of not just the development contributors but community members where shared interests align, scopes overlap, experiences in story/guide/howto inspire, and generally if the values outlined in the Guidelines (and the rich history of BSD) are demonstrated.

It’s worth taking the moment to connect directly and remind a person that they have and do add value to your experience.

brianthehughes I don t get exactly the purpose of Yr last comment, Brian, but if it was meant to address Vic directly instead of talking "about him" in general, then that s already done multiple times. Vic knows, how much I appreciate his skills and help around all platforms relating to (Ghost)BSD. If I misinterpret something in Your words, let me know. I m great in misinterpreting, Ya know... ;-)

brianthehughes aah, alright. yeah, sometimes my brain has its own ways of "putting things together". Maybe I was on the wrong track. Anyway, I think, the way it works right now in these forums gets us further in improving GhostBSD and with people like You, Vic or Alex, the fun is back, too! 😃 Either here or on Mastodon, where ever we may roam... c) B´52s 😜
