It's an old Dell Latitude E6520 with 4G ram.
Processor: Intel Core i5-2520M
Graphics: Intel HD graphics 3000 (SNB GT2)
O/S: GhostBSD 24.10.1 running X11 and MATE desktop.
File system: ZFS
All software has been upgraded to current. The issue has been there since install (about a month ago), and present with all upgrades. At install I chose "Use the whole disk", rather than creating partitions.
The slivers are static but different with different menu selections. Sometimes they are not there at all.
Whether this is a fault in the O/S or the hardware I am unsure, hence the query. (It may be a hard-drive issue.) I have not recently run a memory test, so this may be the first avenue to try. Another option I am considering, is to reinstall with partitions (not using whole disk option).
I'm currently doing a GhostBSD vs Debian comparison for both usability and stability (before buying a new laptop). Each have their benefits - I do however prefer the structure and concept of BSD. The XFCE desktop environment may also be worth trying out (and would be a fairer comparison as Debian is using XFCE.). I've used different flavours of Linux over the years (as well as PC-BSD before its demise), but still consider myself a novice when looking under the hood.
