Programs won't open in XLibre

I installed the latest GhostBSD 26.2 MATE on my laptop. It looks awesome and the encyrption option is a welcome addition. And it looks like a stellar release as usual.

However.

I'm running into problems running a few programs like deadbeef, alephone/marathon games and mame which worked fine in 26.1 under Xlibre. I have about 95% of the programs I usually run in GhostBSD working perfectly when doing a fresh install and was wondering if others were seeing any issues with Xlibre at this time.

Not sure, but, I think the problem might be the Xlibre drivers and not GhostBSD itself. I'm rooting for Xlibre to be the long term, stable Xorg replacement as it matures and provides an alternative to Wayland.

Yeah, I was having problems with fresh install of latest Xfce ISO. Extreme Tux Racer failed to run (segmentation fault) whereas it had been fine in previous releases. For me I resolved issue by downgrading to previous Xfce ISO, then upgrading whole system via Update Station. Might be worth trying.

Think there’s been a lot of hype around the supposed ‘death’ of Xorg, mainly propagated by the Wayland folk who just seemed to want a clean break. So many systems still depend on Xorg, I don’t see it going away anytime soon, and with the help of AI it should be possible to keep it going with only a few maintainers. Personally I’d still stick with Xorg for the time being, but as long as Xlibre performs as well as Xorg I don’t mind too much really.

I installed etracer to see, and it is working, but it is not a fresh install. It is an upgrade. Also, I am on NVIDIA.

I will investigate. A clean install with Intel.

Installed it on an Intel system, and it installs Nvidia drivers. That does not make any sense.

ericbsd I noticed there were Xlibre and Nvidia driver dependencies when installing the programs that I mentioned in my original post.

Also, tried a fresh install of the XFCE edition and noticing the same nvidia-kmod and xlibre-nvidia-driver dependency issues across many packages. For example: moc, gimp, ouch, deadbeef, mame, amule.

meurglys That is a bug caused by /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/XDrivers.conf and /xdrivers.

There was a gate in xconfig that I did not know was there. It prevented me from removing the file and the folder.

Strange, on my now upgraded Xfce laptop I don't see any wayward dependency links for gimp.

Previously because I had major Xfce disruption after simply installing libreoffice & language pkg & after a reboot, I asked Gemini what might have gone wrong and it thought that there might be Mate dependency issues creeping in to the Xfce release - which might explain my desktop getting shredded, but I do also remember nvidia drivers being installed during installation of libreoffice

So everyone having the problem will have to remove /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/XDrivers.conf and /xdrivers and remove the Nvidia drivers.

To find it pkg info | grep nvidia.

I will package xconfig and push it.

I have to release a new ISO as soon as possible. It will be 26.3. I have one fix for my mouse that I have to finish testing and will probably ship in 26.3.

ericbsd Thanks Eric.....that worked fine, Installed ALL my programs, except deadbeef. When I launch it in a terminal it says starting deadbeef, but remains a blank terminal.

Looking forward to the 26.3 release and trying out the mocha dock.
