so kernel source was not part of install (i think it is for freeBSD, no big deal), and i wanna compile something which is telling me i need kernel source installed
i'm running GhostBSD11.1-ALPHA1-20170808-063724-xfce-i386.iso
$ freebsd-version -k
11.1-RC3
if i use
$ git clone
https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd.git /usr/src
will that get 11.1-RC3 or no, i have to add something special to the git command or even git from a different github ?

You can get the source code from this GhostBSD wiki page:
http://wiki.ghostbsd.org/wiki/index.php ... stallation

Yes, that is the src tarball, however keep in mind two things:
1) you should spend some amount of time learning about GhostBSD/FreeBSD before to adventure into software building, FreeBSD/GhostBSD are quite different from a Linux distro.
2) We might drop i386 support any time, ideally within hours.

Sleeping make me feel like a "rechargeable battery" and we all know batteries allow for a limited amount of discharge/recharge cycles
