Failed upgrade / bad install

Post by RodMyers »

My rant with the update & subsequent reinstalls

1: root account disabled by default. enough said

2: no ability to set hostname when installing

3: no more ability to set UID:GID when installing
when changed after first reboot. LightDM will not start MATE
I have this system setup with olde freeBSD, TrueOS, Trident,
etc UID:GID, NOT going to re-do my home network to accommodate this new stuff.

4: as per telegram, did the following;
pkg update -f && pkg upgrade -f
made things a tad worse
woke to a frozen laptop, and would die doing bootup

5: doing my 4th re-install,
cat ghostBSD_pkglist | xargs pkg install -y

Things mostly work, except for mounting my NAS, which goes back to item #3, that and my original complain about work core dumping is still present

update:

I did a fresh install, creating a bogus account. upon reboot, created a root password, my real account. editing the /etc/group file to match bogus account.

So far the only thing found NOT to work, is worker
