24.01.1 Installer Xorg Cannot Start on Alder Lake N100

Post by streaml1ne »

Got a new cheap laptop with an Alder Lake N100 to replace an ageing Dell XPS for use as a BSD laptop. The installer loads, but Xorg fails to start with:

I believe FreeBSD , at the oment, only supports this chipset in FreeBSD 15.

Maybe others with more knowledge will chime in

I was afraid of that, but figured Q1 2023 would have been long enough before the November release of 14 to have gotten support in.

just an update. i grabbed nomBSD, which has a gui front end/live media.

i was able to get a gui started. having issues getting things configured, but it looks like it works. Maybe within an update or two, things will work for us

I ended up installing 15-CURRENT and drm-kmod-61 and it's working. I also needed to set vm.pmap.pcid_enabled=0 in the boot loader to avoid UFS corruption and other sporadic issues with the N100's E-cores. Obviously all manual config, but shows at least some newer version of Ghost will probably function fine on the system. With some luck 14.1 will have drm-61 and the associated kernel requirements MFC'd. Is there any equivalent of a nightly build on GhostBSD?
