Upcoming GhostBSD 11.0 delayed for the new pkg repositories

Post by ericbsd »

The next major version of GhostBSD will feature our software package repositories instead of continuing to use those from FreeBSD, and it is the primary reason for the delay of the release. See the whole newsletter at http://www.ghostbsd.org/UpcomingGhostBS ... positories

Thanks for all your work, ericbsd and all other devs. I think it's a great idea what you are doing. I'll definitely be running latest on my laptop and perhaps my desktop. Can I upgrade from ALPHA1?

Thanks, definitely appreciated! :)

Of course, yes!
Additionally, we should be able to provide an upgrade path for major releases too. One step at a time. ;)

Another benefit will be that we will be able to build the ISO using exactly the same set of packages, and thus will be able to perform tests using exactly the same software, until now the built ISO could be slightly different depending on the time of build and FreeBSD repository status.

And more ... ;)

It is a big step forward for us, somewhat challenging, but definitely worth to do it. :)

We are not that far, the builder is up and running:

(either one of the two could be working at any time)
http://buildlogs-i386.ghostbsd.org/Report/
http://buildlogs-amd64.ghostbsd.org/Report/

the webserver to deploy packages is also up and running:
http://pkg.ghostbsd.org/
(btw, beside the three mentioned repository, there is a 4th, "build", which is really temporary for the time required to complete the build.)

We are now working on merging the freebsd ports tree with our own ports ... we are evaluating a couple of options ... once defined that, we will be nearly ready! :)

So if I do these commands will an ISO be built?

cd ghostbsd-build/mkscripts

./make_xfce_amd64_iso

Will this pull in the packages from http://pkg.ghostbsd.org/?

No, we are not there yet, and as I wrote before we have still to merge-in our ports.
Be patient! ;)
