Re: ditched wireless, went wired and still no internet

All GhostBSD CD/DVD's are live installable, (as are the 'image' files).
There has been some problems with missing software on some 4.0RC releases, mainly 32bit.
Many people say they had 3.5 up and running, so no harm in trying it.

Re: Does Ghost do wireless?

I don't know if NDIS is in GhostBSD as standard, but I doubt it. Never having had to use it myself, I can only point you to info. Mounting a Linux partition from BSD can be tricky as not all Linux filesystems are supported. Basically the syntax is the same :- mount <drive> -t <filesystem> <mount-poi...

Re: dual boot with linux

You will need the UFS file system support in grub, not many distros have it.
Edit: Then, I think, you can 'chainload' it. (It's been some time since I dual booted any of my machines.)

Re: Does Ghost do wireless?

Linux drivers don't normally work on BSD, but you can try, (the kernels are quite different).
I don't think there will be any harm in trying, put it into the 'firmware' directory & reboot.
If it works you're lucky, if it doesn't, just delete it.

Re: dual boot with linux

Will the bsd boot loader pickup the Linux partitions?
It should - it did the last time I dual booted.

As far as I am aware, it is still FreeBSD underneath, so if it uses certain drivers, then surely GhostBSD would. :|

Re: GhostBSD4.0-RC2

Sorry, I don't have it any more since it crashed on the HP-G62, but I'm sure it needs Intel. Re: Wine or Play on Linux for default

I am not so sure that either would fit with the original intention of a light environment, but maybe as easily installable options.

Re: GhostBSD4.0-RC1

Code: Select all

pkg install -f spideroak
Worked for me.
