my "minimal ISO" was small, but I was unable to make it fit a CD size, ~900 MB is what I was able to achieve, but sure, we will try again. ;)

The 10.3 FreeBSD Disk 1 for 64 bits goes at 696 MB . Just the base apps.

Re: Memory comparisons

I think, IMHO, and speaking as a USER, LXDE as DE, and then a minimal install à la FreeBSD, would be better. First, LXDE is light (comes with Openbox as wm) and then the minimal one so the client can install whatever they desire, have the dbus/hald already taken care of in /etc/rc.conf, no slim (sta...

Re: HOWTO: JWM Basic Configuration

Thanks, if one day will will have a minimal/reduced/small ISO, that will be using JWM by default ;) My grandaughter has a lappy (Atom/1 gig Ram), I installed ghostbd/JWM on it, and it moves quick. First thing I do is copy the global config file /usr/local/etc/system.jwmrc to my /home. You are NOT allowed to edit the global file. $ cp /usr/local/etc/system.jwmrc .jwmrc So, fr...

Re: What desktop or window manager you mostly use and why.

To me, DEs are out, if a window manager has its keybindings convoluted (read openbox), is out. I cannot waste time going to menus and clicking. Not to mention the RAM waste, thus, speed is where is at; looks mean nothing to me. JWM, Icewm, and Ratpoison. xfe -file manager mirage -image viewer nano -...

HOWTO: IceWM Configuration

HOWTO: IceWM Configuration (Verbose) Obviously, this is a subjective matter. There are different ways of doing this, I like to edit the files. IceWM comes by default with alt-tab to switch windows, alt-F10 to maximize, alt-F9 to minimize the screen, the Windows key will give you the main menu. In th...
